Continuing Healthcare After Ending a Job
Health Insurance after leaving employment
Private Healthcare is an excellent benefit that some companies offer their staff to help support them when they need medical attention. In a few rare cases, company cover can continue after you leave, this would generally be for a set period when the individual is a director or senior executive who has been with the business for a long time, or perhaps remains on as a consultant within the business. For the majority of us though, the day you leave will be the day your private healthcare benefit ends.
When you've had medical insurance for a long time, or you have left a larger company, you may have a history of medical conditions that you want to keep protected, or you may be on an underwriting method called medical history disregard (MHD) which is generally only available for larger corporate companies.
When you leave employment, it may be important for you to continue your underwriting, meaning you are either able to continue with any medical treatment you may be going through or you want the reassurance of protecting a pre-existing condition that happened a while ago.
When considering private healthcare after you have left employment, it is important to speak to an experienced advisor. Due to the complexities of PMI, no comparison site will be able to help you make sure you protect your underwriting and could potentially leave you paying for healthcare insurance for something you can't use it for.
Continue My Healthcare specialises in helping you continue your and your family's healthcare, even if you are mid-treatment or are due treatment shortly. The truth is, we don't know when we are going to become poorly or need medical treatment and it can happen at any time, to any one of us.
Choosing a health insurance policy.
If you have had health insurance through a company-paid policy, you've probably never had much of a say over the level of coverage you receive. Now that you're leaving employment, or have already left, you now have the opportunity to tailor your health insurance policy as you wish, adding things that could be useful or removing some of the benefits you don't feel would benefit you so much.
How It Works
The first thing you need to do is contact our experienced team of friendly advisors. To make sure we can help you get the right cover for you, we will go through a fact find. This is simply an informal conversation to understand what you already have and what reassurance you would like moving forward. There will be some information we require, such as your health insurance membership number and the underwriting that was applied.
We will then go to work and research the available options you have available from our wide panel of insurers and illustrate our recommendation for you. If you would like to see any amendments, we are happy to do this for you. Remember, we work for you and it's our job to make sure you are getting the most suitable policy, regardless of how long it takes. You should know that our services are always FREE.

As with all healthcare insurance plans entitlement to benefits under a personal plan will be subject to the terms and conditions of the product chosen and may differ from those under the corporate plan.
The option to continue the healthcare cover on the same personal medical underwriting terms only lasts for a limited period of time once you leave employment – generally between 30 and 90 days from the date you leave depending on the insurer.
